The Poetics of Generosity
Hello lovelies!
Today is Giving Tuesday, and I’m thinking of two organizations that are very important to me that I’d like to share with my newsletter subscribers: Indigenous Nations Poets and Trio House Press. I am so honored to be involved in two organizations that activate the power of poetry on and beyond the page.
There is so much to say about the impact Indigenous Nations Poets has had on my life as a poet and person. IN-NA-PO has allowed me to connect with award-winning poetry mentors, such as Craig Santos Perez, whose book “From Unincorporated Territory [åmot]” recently won the National Book Award. Today, IN-NA-PO is seeking to fund four fellowships for next year’s #LANGUAGEBACK poetry retreat. Please check out our Kindful fundraising campaign to learn more specifics, and check out some highlights from our Door County retreat last year!

I’m also thinking about Trio House Press, an independent literary press I began volunteering with a little over a year ago. I’m proud to have been able to work with amazing interns when I was editing the titles Bloomer, States of Arousal, and Kaan And Her Sisters. Today, Trio House Press is looking to amp up our internship program to make sure these up-and-coming editors can be fairly compensated for all the hard work they do. Upcoming Events
I’m interviewing fellow IN-NA-PO poet Erin Marie Lynch next week with Birchbark Books! I’ve had incredible conversations with this poet, and I can’t wait to share that with our community in Mni Sota Makoce, where supporting Dakota poets is vital.
Finally…I made some wee appearances on MPR and Vanity Fair this month!

And a quote from me on short fiction in Vanity Fair!
Goodnight & Be Kind,
Halee
